I began my college journey in pre-medical and engineering studies. After transferring to The University of Texas at Dallas and changing majors twice, JSOM Faculty and Staff guided me toward accounting. I joined the Professional Program in Accounting (PPA) which delivered an unparalleled experience. I’ve had the opportunity to network with accomplished DFW Area Audit professionals who taught me the value of diverse academic backgrounds. My PPA cohort has become a tight-knit group of colleagues that remain supportive of each other as we pursue our CPA licenses and enter the public accounting profession. Being a PPA Class 14 Ambassador, Accounting Peer Mentor, and Transfer Mentor are roles that have allowed me to share my experiences, help new students, and strengthen my skills as a leader. The staff and faculty genuinely do everything possible to provide the resources and support to ensure success and cultivate leadership in graduates of the Accounting Program.

My GPA was 0.2 when I returned to UTD after an academic suspension, and I now have an internship with PwC. When I entered the UTD accounting program, I was excited but also overwhelmed. I was balancing challenging coursework, personal responsibilities, and doubts about whether I belonged in such a rigorous field. What helped me overcome those obstacles was the incredible support system built into this program. Even before day one, I was surrounded by inspiring professors and mentors such as the late John Gamino and Director Tiffany Bortz, who genuinely cared about my growth, not just academically, but professionally and personally.

One of the most impactful experiences was the program’s strong networking opportunities with the Big Four. I sat down for coffee with multiple partners (including a managing partner) at highly prestigious firms after meeting them through events, workshops, and guest speakers. I was able to connect more personally with professionals who shared real-world insights and encouraged me to aim higher than I ever thought possible. These interactions made my career goals feel attainable and gave me the confidence to pursue them.

Equally meaningful was the strong sense of community within the program. I built genuine friendships with peers who supported me through challenging moments and celebrated milestones together. This sense of belonging made a demanding program feel manageable and rewarding. UTD accounting didn’t just prepare me for a career; it helped me overcome obstacles, build lasting connections, and believe in my potential.
