I was a Finance major three years ago. Writing my first journal entry made me switch majors, and I’ve never looked back. I can’t wait to start my time in public accounting next year and look back on my years of knowledge and friendship at UT Dallas.
Being part of the Accounting Program at JSOM has honestly been such a blessing. I’ve made friends who share the same goals and drive, and I’ve had access to so many resources thanks to the amazing program support. Additionally, I’ve been able to pass on what I’ve learned to my mentees and help them achieve their own goals, which has been incredibly rewarding. I’m also in the Professional Program in Accounting, and it’s brought me even closer to my peers—we’ve pushed through classes together and built a really strong community. I’m truly grateful to be part of such an enriching program, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
I'm a transfer student to UT Dallas. I've attended several other business schools in my journey to get an accounting degree. My GPA was 0.2 when I returned to UTD after an academic suspension, and I now have an internship with PwC. When I entered the UTD accounting program, I was excited but also overwhelmed. I was balancing challenging coursework, personal responsibilities, and doubts about whether I belonged in such a rigorous field. What helped me overcome those obstacles was the incredible support system built into this program. Even before day one, I was surrounded by inspiring professors and mentors such as the late John Gamino and Director Tiffany Bortz, who genuinely cared about my growth, not just academically, but professionally and personally.
One of the most impactful experiences was the program’s strong networking opportunities with the Big Four. I sat down for coffee with multiple partners (including a managing partner) at highly prestigious firms after meeting them through events, workshops, and guest speakers. I was able to connect more personally with professionals who shared real-world insights and encouraged me to aim higher than I ever thought possible. These interactions made my career goals feel attainable and gave me the confidence to pursue them.
Equally meaningful was the strong sense of community within the program. I built genuine friendships with peers who supported me through challenging moments and celebrated milestones together. This sense of belonging made a demanding program feel manageable and rewarding.
