Joella Degollado, Class of 2021
Is it important to have caring professors?
The educators and faculty of the Naveen Jindal School of Management are truly invested in your success beyond the classroom. In my time as an undergraduate at UT Dallas, many of my professors have mentored me. They have helped me discover opportunities and careers I wouldn’t have known of otherwise.
When I expressed interest in a career that is ever-changing and challenging, Senior Lecturer Tiffany Bortz introduced me to the Internal Audit and the Master’s in Accounting Fast-Track programs. Once admitted, I was able to fast-track internal audit with Joseph Mauriello, director of the Center for Internal Auditing Excellence. Through the course and Mauriello, I landed an internal audit internship, giving me invaluable, real-world experience before graduation. When I wanted to learn more about the everyday life and role of an internal auditor, Jennifer Johnson, another senior lecturer in accounting, connected me with working professionals.
The JSOM faculty, especially in the undergraduate accounting program, are more than willing to help you succeed. I am grateful to have been supported by such a wonderful and caring team. I cannot wait to continue my personal and professional growth with JSOM in the graduate accounting program.
