Susanna Carlton, Class of 2020
I discovered my love for accounting in my very first accounting course and knew I had found what I wanted to pursue my bachelor’s in! When I visited UT Dallas and saw how kind and encouraging all the faculty and staff were, I knew I wanted to transfer there. From my first semester at UT Dallas till now, I have seen how much my accounting professors care and the strides they have taken to help a student succeed. The accounting faculty has opened doors for me that I never dreamed of and helped me discover the endless possibilities of careers in the accounting field.
When I think of the future, I know I will not face it alone, but rather I will have numerous mentors, colleagues and friends who I can reach out to for guidance and support as I begin my journey in my accounting career.
Finding encouraging professors made all the difference
The UT Dallas accounting program gave me the tools to succeed in the classroom and outside it. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given to be mentored by a corporate VP, participate in a team case competition, grow in my collaboration, communication and leadership skills, and continually be challenged by each class’s area of focus. Through the confidence and connections made at UT Dallas I have had two internships, with the federal government and a local government. I have a third internship coming up thanks to the UT Dallas IIA/ISACA/ACFE student chapter!
The bachelor’s in accounting program at UT Dallas sets you up to succeed in so many ways, from the knowledgeable faculty to the numerous professional development and networking opportunities! When I think of the future, I know I will not face it alone, but rather I will have numerous mentors, colleagues and friends who I can reach out to for guidance and support as I begin my journey in my accounting career. I look forward to the ways I will get to serve my fellow Comets and community as I take my place among accounting professionals.
