The Accounting program at The University of Texas at Dallas has helped me tremendously these past few years. I found my internship and future full-time job at RSM through this program and made many friends along the way. I have always felt supported during my time in the program and could not have done it without my peers and program advisors. I got the opportunity to be involved in the Professional Program in Accounting, and I am an Accounting Peer Mentor. Both have allowed me to be the best leader and accounting professional I could be. I began my college journey in pre-medical and engineering studies. After transferring to The University of Texas at Dallas and changing majors twice, JSOM Faculty and Staff guided me toward accounting. I joined the Professional Program in Accounting (PPA) which delivered an unparalleled experience. I’ve had the opportunity to network with accomplished DFW Area Audit professionals who taught me the value of diverse academic backgrounds. My PPA cohort has become a tight-knit group of colleagues that remain supportive of each other as we pursue our CPA licenses and enter the public accounting profession. Being a PPA Class 14 Ambassador, Accounting Peer Mentor, and Transfer Mentor are roles that have allowed me to share my experiences, help new students, and strengthen my skills as a leader. The staff and faculty genuinely do everything possible to provide the resources and support to ensure success and cultivate leadership in graduates of the Accounting Program.

During my junior year at UTD, I was able to get an internship at the Government Accountability Office as a financial auditor. I started out as a transfer student at JSOM in fall semester 2018. Being a junior at that time wasn’t easy. I felt overwhelmed because I needed to start by learning the smallest things, like the direction to Chick-fil-A or how to print my essay in the computer lab. It was easy to feel lonely at times because as a transfer student, I didn’t have as many established relationships with friends and the school’s faculty compared to someone who had attended UTD since they were a freshman. My best experience with the program is helping my mentees to know the opportunities that the UTD accounting program has to offer. I love sharing information about programs such as PPA, Undergraduate Accounting Club and Accounting Breakfast Club. Most of my mentees are transfer students, who do not know about the requirements for programs like PPA. Through email and events, I shared the step-by-step process to join the program. And I’m happy to know that the mentees I talked with during the welcoming event are now a part of PPA and one is on his first internship with one of the Big Four accounting firms
